We’ve talked many times before on this blog about how important the mileage deduction is when you drive your personal vehicle for work. With the standard IRS mileage rate for 2015 at 57.5 cents per mile driven, it’s a deduction that adds up fast. And now, we at MileIQ have crunched the numbers and found not only that the average mileage deduction is right around $6,000 per year, but also which parts of the country are driving more than others.

According to our research, US workers who use their personal vehicle for business purposes drive over 10,000 business miles per year and deduct nearly $6,000 each year on their taxes. However, we found that workers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area top the nation in business driving – racking up 23 percent more business miles per driver and deducting nearly $1,400 more than the national average.

It’s not surprising, considering DFW’s  robust economy and vast geographic area. That said, it’s still A LOT of miles, not to mention a hefty deduction!

Another Texas market, Houston, narrowly takes the number two spot on the list with workers in that market logging 21.4 percent more business miles than the US average.

Wondering how your area stacks up? Take a look at the full list below. Are you surprised by the results? Do you feel like you drive more of less than your area’s average? Let us know in the comments.
