This week, we’re excited to speak with Denton Farley, CEO of Fly Consulting. His company helps small businesses manage their tech. See how he uses tech to manage his own thriving company.

Tell us about your business. What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for us usually involves driving to our client’s place of business to help them out with day to day technology needs. We are a technology consulting company and are always driving from one place to the next. Some days I personally can drive to four or five different locations!

How many miles do you drive in a typical week? Where do you drive as part of your job?

At least from MileIQ, it says I drive about 2,000 miles or more a month which puts it at about 400 to 500 miles a week. My business is based in the Livingston and Oakland County areas of Michigan and we serve about a 40 to 50 mile radius from our base location in Highland, Michigan.

What’s changed since you started using MileIQ?

I used to use just an excel spreadsheet to track all of my miles. After using MileIQ, I realized I was missing a lot of my drives. I’d either forget to log it or just not think it was a business trip. Simple trips like running to the store to get parts or a first drive to a new client were being missed because they weren’t on my calendar when I sat down and tracked my miles.

What’s a tip for using MileIQ you’d like to share with others?

Honestly, MileIQ is great! One tip is that you can use MileIQ from a computer through the web dashboard. You can go in and edit or create a new drive from any web browser. I have had to do this a few times because of my phone thinking I was in a different location than I really was (The fault of the phone, not MileIQ).

What’s the biggest challenge you face running your business, and how do you address it?

Honestly, the biggest challenge that I face with the business is making sure we are on top of technology. We provide not only maintenance but also planning for technology.

Most businesses just want someone to fix their broken tech, but we look at it differently. We are always thinking about how we can make your business better. Just like how MileIQ saw a need and filled it, we try and find those needs for your business.

What do you enjoy the most about the kind of work you do?

I really enjoy helping my clients with technology. It really makes it all worth it when you can remove headaches by doing something you love that also helps others out as well! Things that are simple to me might not be simple to others.

When not working, what do you like to do?

Usually, in my free time I like to spend it with my family or friends relaxing or having fun. We can’t work 24/7 all the time 😛
